Ladyhill Victoria Composite P. U. College conducted a seminar on Mental Health Awareness, dated on 27th September 2024. Mrs. Radhika Nayak was invited as the speaker for the same. She is a professional counsellor holding an MSc degree in Counselling Psychology and currently she is working as a student counsellor at Ladyhill Victoria College with years of experience. She helped individuals and families address various mental health concerns. She committed to create a safe, supportive environment for personal growth and transformation.

Elucidating the topic of Mental health and awareness she addressed the students and the staff. Beginning with the basic prospect of health and the factors it is based on, she has covered concerning important topics like anxiety, depression and some commonly spread myths in detail and she illustrated the inciting causes of mental illness and how it is being spread among the different age groups. Expressing the main concern towards the youth with the age group varying from 13 - 19 years of age, she discussed the symptoms, causes, consequences and prevention of Mental disorders. She also discussed the various strategies to resist peer pressure and impulsive decisions, individuality and expression, importance of exercise, insecurity. However, there are some consequences to consider that social media can be addictive, leading to decreased productivity, social isolation and mental health issues like anxiety and depression.

Taking a note of it, Radhika Nayak interacted with the students and discussed the elements leading to suicides in every age group. Academic pressure, financial issues, body image concerns, sexual identity are a few comprising the list. Further, she imbued the audience with measures to prevent suicides such as providing support services, reducing access to means of self-harm, talk therapies and enhancing coping strategies of people having suicidal tendencies.

Radhika Nayak concluded the program by emphasizing that physical health and mental health hold equal importance, necessitating a balanced approach to overall wellness. In the end, she answered the queries in detail raised by the audience. The information imparted during the seminar served to be an eye-opener for our students. The learning from the event would go a long way in tackling mental and emotional issues.
